MISSION ET OBJECTIFS<\/strong><\/h3>\n

\u00catre Noir.e au Canada<\/strong> repr\u00e9sente le plus grand programme de formation, mentorat et cr\u00e9ation au Canada \u00e0 \u00eatre enti\u00e8rement consacr\u00e9 aux cin\u00e9astes noirs. Cette importante initiative, issue du programme Rel\u00e8ve et Diversit\u00e9<\/strong> de la Fondation<\/strong> Fabienne Colas<\/strong>, vise \u00e0 cr\u00e9er, professionnaliser et outiller la rel\u00e8ve noire du Cin\u00e9ma et de la T\u00e9l\u00e9vision.<\/p>\n

Le Programme \u00catre Noir.e au Canada a \u00e9t\u00e9 mis sur pied pour pallier au manque flagrant de diversit\u00e9 et du peu de gens des communaut\u00e9s noires devant et derri\u00e8re la cam\u00e9ra au Canada<\/strong>. Il donne une voix et une plateforme \u00e0 des cr\u00e9ateurs qui, autrement, ne seraient ni vus ni entendus. La Fondation veut ainsi favoriser l\u2019\u00e9galit\u00e9 des chances pour les cin\u00e9astes noirs tout en diversifiant nos \u00e9crans trop blancs pour une soci\u00e9t\u00e9 m\u00e9tiss\u00e9e.<\/p>\n

En 2026, \u00catre Noir.e au Canada a permis \u00e0 22<\/strong> cin\u00e9astes noirs \u00e9mergents mal desservis \u00e0 Montr\u00e9al, Toronto,<\/strong> Halifax, Ottawa, Calgary<\/strong> et Vancouver<\/strong> de cr\u00e9er leurs premiers courts m\u00e9trages documentaires. Le programme accueille 35<\/strong> nouveaux artistes Noir.es par ann\u00e9e. Le programme offre une formation GRATUITE, du mentorat, de la formation, du mat\u00e9riel professionnel, des studios de montage et des \u00e9quipes professionnelles <\/strong>pour aider les jeunes cin\u00e9astes dans leur processus de cr\u00e9ation et r\u00e9alisation du d\u00e9but \u00e0 la fin. Ensuite, nous projetterons leurs films aux Festivals du Film Black de Montr\u00e9al, Toronto, Halifax, Ottawa, Calgary et Vancouver <\/strong>et ailleurs.<\/p>\n

HISTORIQUE<\/strong><\/h3>\n

Cr\u00e9\u00e9 \u00e0 Montr\u00e9al en 2014, la s\u00e9rie s\u2019est d\u00e9roul\u00e9e en 2019 \u00e0 travers trois villes du Canada, soit Montr\u00e9al, Toronto et Halifax, en collaboration avec le Festival international du Film Black de Montr\u00e9al<\/strong> (FIFBM), le Festival du Film Black de Toronto<\/strong> (TBFF) et le Festival du Film Black d\u2019Halifax<\/strong> (HBFF).<\/p>\n

En 2019, \u00catre Noir.e au Canada a permis \u00e0 15 jeunes cin\u00e9astes afro-descendants, de 18 \u00e0 30 ans, de Montr\u00e9al, Toronto et Halifax, de cr\u00e9er 15 courts-m\u00e9trages documentaires d\u2019environ 10 min chacun. Les jeunes cin\u00e9astes noirs ont trait\u00e9 des sujets qu’ils souhaitaient, sous le th\u00e8me \u00catre Noir.e au Canada. Ils ont re\u00e7u une formation sp\u00e9cialis\u00e9e jusqu\u2019\u00e0 la diffusion des \u0153uvres r\u00e9alis\u00e9es, en passant par des ateliers sur la recherche, sc\u00e9narisation, entrevues en documentaires, r\u00e9alisation, montage, production, postproduction, promotion, Tourn\u00e9e des Festivals etc<\/strong>. Chacun sous la tutelle de professionnels du milieu, ils ont eu acc\u00e8s \u00e0 du mat\u00e9riel professionnel et \u00e0 un soutien personnalis\u00e9.<\/p>\n

Les 15 films ont \u00e9t\u00e9 pr\u00e9sent\u00e9s en premi\u00e8re mondiale au 15e Festival International du Film Black de Montr\u00e9al<\/strong> en septembre 2019. Les 15 cin\u00e9astes ont ensuite pr\u00e9sent\u00e9 leurs films en premi\u00e8re Ontarienne au Festival du Film Black de Toronto<\/strong> et en premi\u00e8re atlantique canadienne au Festival du Film Black d\u2019Halifax<\/strong> en f\u00e9vrier 2020. Les repr\u00e9sentations ont \u00e9t\u00e9 suivies de causeries pour discuter des enjeux socio-\u00e9conomiques et r\u00e9alit\u00e9s noires dans le cin\u00e9ma et dans la soci\u00e9t\u00e9, particuli\u00e8rement leurs provinces respectives, et partager des pistes de solutions pour une meilleure inclusion des jeunes Noirs dans le milieu.<\/p>\n

De plus, les films de 2019 films ont \u00e9t\u00e9 diffus\u00e9s \u00e0 la t\u00e9l\u00e9vision sur CBC<\/strong> (Toronto et Halifax), T\u00e9l\u00e9-Qu\u00e9bec<\/strong> (Montr\u00e9al) et TFO<\/strong> (Toronto).<\/p>\n

En 2021, gr\u00e2ce au soutien de\u00a0Netflix, de la\u00a0Banque Nationale, de\u00a0T\u00e9l\u00e9film Canada, du\u00a0Fonds des M\u00e9dias du Canada\u00a0et de ses partenaires locaux, le\u00a0programme est offert \u00e0\u00a0Ottawa, Calgary et Vancouver<\/b>.\u00a0De plus, ce soutien permettra, chaque ann\u00e9e, \u00e0\u00a035 nouveaux artistes Noir.e.s<\/b>\u00a0de participer au programme \u00catre Noir.e au Canada de la Fondation Fabienne Colas.<\/p>\n

MISSION AND GOALS<\/strong><\/h3>

Being Black in Canada<\/strong> represents Canada\u2019s largest mentorship, training, and creation program to be entirely dedicated to Black filmmakers<\/strong>. This important initiative, created by the Fabienne Colas Foundation\u2019s Youth and Diversity Program<\/strong>, aims to train, mentor and empower the next generation of Black Filmmakers in Cinema and Television.<\/p>

Being Black in Canada was created to make up for the blatant lack of diversity and the lack of Black People in front and behind the camera in Canada<\/strong>. It gives a voice and a platform to creators who would not otherwise be seen or heard. The Foundation actively promotes equal opportunities for Black Filmmakers while fostering Diversity on our screens that unfortunately showcase content that is too white for a truly diverse society.<\/p>

In 2020, Being Black in Canada will allow 20<\/strong> underserved emerging Black Filmmakers in Montreal, Toronto, <\/strong>and Halifax<\/strong> to create their first short documentaries. And in 2021, the program will also open in Ottawa, Calgary, <\/strong>and Vancouver <\/strong>to welcome and support 35<\/strong> new Black artists each year. The program provides FREE training, mentorship, professional equipment, editing studios, professional crews<\/strong> to assist them from beginning to the end of their filmmaking process. Then, we will premiere their films at the Toronto, Montreal, and Halifax Black Film Festivals<\/strong>, as well as elsewhere.<\/p>

HISTORY<\/strong><\/h3>

Created in Montr\u00e9al in 2014, the series was held in 2019 in three cities in Canada: Montr\u00e9al, Toronto & Halifax, in collaboration with the Montreal International Black Film Festival<\/strong> (MIBFF), the Toronto Black Film Festival<\/strong> (TBFF) & the Halifax Black Film Festival<\/strong> (HBFF).<\/p>

In 2019, the program enabled 15 young Black Filmmakers <\/strong>(from Montreal, Toronto & Halifax), aged 18 to 30, to create 15 documentary shorts of approximately 10 minutes each. Filmmakers addressed the issue of social integration of people from Black communities in Canada through the powerful medium of film. The 15 promising filmmakers were guided through the many steps in audiovisual production (Researching, Screenwriting, Interviewing, Directing, Editing, Post-production, Promotion, Touring in Festivals etc<\/strong>.) and creation of a documentary. This process was carried out under the professional tutelage of industry professionals with professional equipment and dedicated mentorship.<\/p>

The 15 films<\/strong> have been presented as world premieres at the Montreal International Black Film Festival<\/strong> in September 2019. The 15 filmmakers also screened their films as Ontario Premieres at the Toronto Black Film Festival <\/strong>and then as Canadian Atlantic Premieres at the Halifax Black Film Festival<\/strong> in February 2020. The film screenings were followed by talks to discuss the socio-economic issues and black realities in cinema and society, particularly their respective provinces and share possible solutions for better inclusion of black youth in the community.<\/p>

Then, the 2019 films will be screened on CBC<\/strong> (Toronto & Halifax), Tele-Quebec<\/strong> (Montreal), TFO (Toronto).<\/p>
